Barkley Payne is the Executive Director of the American Medical Association Foundation in Chicago. Prior to joining the AMAF, he served as vice president of corporate development and strategic philanthropy with the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF). Earlier, he led the American Dental Association Foundation as its Executive Director. In 2009, he was awarded honorary fellowships by the American College of Dentists and International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics, their highest awards for non-DDS professionals. Association Trends Magazine named Payne a 2004 young and aspiring association professional. A Kentucky native, Payne held executive and development positions with Metro Louisville Operation Brightside and The Louisville Orchestra.

Payne earned a BA in public relations at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Ky. He has further developed his leadership skills through programs offered by the American Society of Association Executives and Center for Creative Leadership. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Chicago Council of Planned Giving and Chicago Health Executives Forum, and serves on the board of directors for the Association Foundation Group. He has served on numerous other boards including the American Society of Dental Fundraising Executives, National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky, Louisville Zoo Foundation and the Association of the Louisville Orchestra. Payne is a resident of Chicago.
