Screening and Planned Giving: Using The Most Predictive Data for Prospecting

Andy Suther, Director of Strategic Partnerships, DonorSearch

Garet Turner, CAE, Chief Development Officer, ASAE and the ASAE Foundation

Many associations are grappling with waves of retirements by industry leaders and have concerns about where the next generation will come from. In the meantime, many of their related foundations are trying to figure out how to best solicit those retiring leaders for a planned gift before they leave. How do you search for planned giving prospects? What are some of the common traits to look for in your current donors? Do you have member/non-donors who might actually be good planned giving prospects? See what can happen when the most predictive external screening information is overlaid with historical giving data as Garet Turner of the ASAE Research Foundation and Andy Suther of DonorSearch share their results from a collaborative project with the ASAE database, and how it has impacted their planned giving strategy.

Educational Session II (10:00-11:00 AM)

The First Ask in Fundraising

Jeff Borchardt, Vice President, Association Development Solutions

Tyler Eble, 2nd Vice President, Association Development Solutions

Asking the right questions before embarking on any fundraising effort is essential for setting realistic goals and achieving your desired outcomes. This step of intelligence building enables you to identify and communicate where the greatest opportunities to grow development exist and helps with managing expectations when individuals demand unrealistic results that are based on feelings – not facts. So, what questions should you be asking and who should you include in the process? What questions are your board members asking that you should be prepared for, but more importantly, what questions aren’t they asking that you can proactively address? This session will cover the key areas of investigation that can help you organize your fundraising strategy.

Education Session III (11:00 AM-12:00 PM)
